chic-fil-a leadercast urban meyer and tim tebow

Here are my notes and take aways from Urban Meyer & Tim Tebow at Chic-fil-A Leadercast.

  • Urban Meyer saw leadership in Tim when he took over a baseball game as a right fielder. You can exercise leadership from any position that you play.
  • Leadership is the ability to influence somebody…it may not be 100 people, but it’s probably one…it could be your son or your daughter.
  • Great leaders are: 1) Selfless, 2) Have a tremendous Work Ethic, and have a 3) Competitive Edge
  • Leaders raise the level of play of people around them
  • How do you handle criticism as a leader? Faith & Family…mission focus…criticism gets our attention to drift off the mission
  • You can’t control what people think about you so don’t waste your time thinking about it. Don’t spend your energy there
  • If you have a platform you’re a role model

chic-fil-a leadercast andy stanley

If you missed the Chic-fil-A Leadercast this past Friday then you missed out on some great content! But no worries you can catch up quick. I’m going to post my notes and take aways from each of the sessions over the next couple of days! First up was Andy Stanley…enjoy!

Leadership is important because of uncertainty. Uncertainty isn’t an indication of poor leadership. Uncertainty underscores the need for leadership.

 3 Questions to Choose by:

1. What would my replacement do?

If you were the new CEO what would you do…because they aren’t going to be in love with memories and the history of what has happened, they are going to be in love with the mission, vision, values, and the future. What if you walked out of the room and came back in with fresh eyes and made decisions based on the mission, vision, values, and future? Resource to check out: “Only the Paranoid Survive” book by Andy Grove

2. What would a great leader do?

This question takes you out of the immediate of the situation and re-frames the moment you are in

“If we get better, customers will demand that we get bigger” Truett Cathy

3. What story do I want to tell?

This is the legacy question. Don’t choose anything that will make you a liar for life.

the difference between a talented leader and a good leader

It’s possible to be a talented leader and still not be a good leader. As a matter of fact, it’s possible to be an effective leader, in that you’re able to get results and move things forward and still, not be a good leader.

The identifying mark that pushes a leader over the top and moves them from being a talented leader to becoming a good leader is character.

Without character talented leaders are tempted to…

recruiting & hiring teams that make vision real part-2 what a hire gone wrong will cost you

When a hire goes right everyone wins. The new hire is empowered and unleashed to lead in their sweet spot, the team is invigorated, and the church benefits from seeing the mission take ground.
